The default feed is available to media players that can perform protocol rollover between MMS, RTSP, and HTTP. (e.g. Windows Media Player and RealPlayer).
The alternate feed is suitable for players that cannot perform protocol rollover or for whatever circumstance, the alternative feed cannot be accessed.
For Mac users, the latest version of QuickTime Player or iTunes should be able to decode and play these files without a problem. Consult documentation for these respective players or Apple for more details.
For Linux users, the latest version of the media player that came with your distribution of Linux should be able to decode and play these files without a problem.
